Account Balance Details ^top

ESL's Internet Banking functions in an on-line / real-time environment, which means that transactions are "posted" to your account as they are performed. Even in this type of environment, there remains the need to perform End of Day processing.

End of Day Processing

End of Day processing begins each business day at approximately 7:10pm EST when access to Internet Banking is temporarily interrupted for a few minutes. Although the interruption could last anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, there are a few technicalities to be aware of during this brief interruption. For example, (1) access to the Internet Banking sign-on page may not be possible, (2) an Internet Banking sign-on attempt may reject due to a connectivity error, or (3) if you were already within Internet Banking, and you may not see what you expect.

The third item deserves further explanation because it may lead you to believe that your account balances are incorrect or that certain account transactions are missing. Rest assured your accounts are NOT incorrect and your transactions are NOT missing. The temporary interruption (mentioned above) prevents access to your account information and the data displayed during that interruption could be incomplete. If you experience this problem, please sign out of Internet Banking and try again in a few minutes.

Missing Transactions

Every business day between approximately 7:30pm - 9:30pm EST it may appear that transactions that were applied against each of your account(s) during the day are not viewable, but each account balance is correct.

When this situation occurs, your transactions that were "posted" during the day are in the process of being MOVED from the daily activity file to the transaction history file. Your transactions are NOT lost or missing, they are temporarily unavailable while they are being merged into the transaction history file. All transactions will be available for viewing AFTER the merge process has completed, which is usually at approximately 8:30pm EST.

Why does my running balance appear to be incorrect?

Your running balance is a calculated (temporary) value that is adjusted to reflect the transactions as they were applied against your account. The running balance starts with the current account balance, which reflects ALL transaction activity. Since the daily transactions are not available between 7:30pm - 8:30pm EST, the process starts with the transactions that are already in the history file (working with the most recent to the oldest based on the history date range desired).

The first transaction listed will also show the current running balance, which is the actual account balance at this point. As each succeeding transaction is listed, the running balance is adjusted by the prior transaction's amount. If the previous transaction was a withdrawal, the running balance will be incremented by that amount. If the previous transaction was a deposit, the running balance will be decremented by that amount. This process continues until the desired history date range has been presented.

Why don't the dividends earned for my Members' Advantage accounts show in the account detail section?

The dividends are paid by Federated Investors, not ESL, so the cumulative amounts are not available on our website. Your dividend payments show on your monthly Federated statement as well as on your Balance Account transaction history. The cumulative amount of dividends earned is included on your quarterly Federated statements.

Investments/Certificates ^top

ESL would like to help you understand your Online Investment Information. Here are a few pieces of information to assist you:

  • Your Investment Balance is your current balance.
  • Your Available Balance is a calculated field based on the following equation: current balance plus any accrued dividends minus ESL's required minimum balance for this product type (which varies from product to product) minus the applicable penalty if you were to withdraw your funds today.

For example, if your current balance is $1,000, accrued dividends are $9, the required minimum balance is $500, and the penalty for withdrawing your funds today is $13, then your available balance would be $496 using the equation:

1000 + 9 - 500 - 13 = 496.

ESL is pleased to offer you a secure and convenient way to manage your Visa Credit Card Account online. This new feature enables you to:

  • View purchases, payments, cash advances, balance transfers, and credits.
  • View your next scheduled payment amount. After your payment is credited to your account, this value will equal zero.
  • View three (3) months' history, plus the current month activity.
  • View transactions as soon as the merchant posts them to your account.
  • Monitor your loan balance and available balance, which is accurate as of the most recent information available.
  • The Payoff Amount displayed on the "Loan Summary / History Information" page is an estimate only. The estimate payoff balance does not include any finance charges that have accrued since your last statement.

Please be aware that there are some limitations to the information you can view online.

  • Finance charges and fees such as late charge, cash advance, over limit and returned check fee will not appear on your online history.
  • The activity on your account is presented by month beginning the 1st day of each month, rather than by billing cycle.
  • If you make an extra payment, your next due date will advance when your account cycles for the next billing statement.

Keep in mind that any fees or finance charges assessed to your account will not appear online, but will be reflected in your monthly statement. Your account information online is not intended as a replacement for your monthly Visa billing statement.
