2018 ESL College Scholarship Winners

Fourth Crop of ESL Scholars Honored

Earlier this spring, for the fourth consecutive year, ESL awarded and celebrated five college-bound high school students through the ESL College Scholarship Program. Each of these students received a $2,000 college scholarship, having been chosen as the best and brightest from a competitive field of more than 190 impressive applicants.

A panel of judges selected the students based on their academic records, extracurricular activities, community service, and most importantly, their reflection of ESL’s core values of accountability, caring about people, integrity, initiative, and teamwork.

To celebrate the students’ hard work, achievements, and dedication to the Rochester community, ESL welcomed students and their families to a special reception in April. The evening not only highlighted the qualities that they each exhibited, but also addressed the trend of paying for the rising costs of a college education.

“In addition to being outstanding scholars, these students are actively involved in giving back to the community and donating their time,” said Faheem Masood, President and CEO, ESL Federal Credit Union. “Our ESL College Scholarship award makes the college investment a bit easier and recognizes exemplary student success and service to our community.”

Recipients of this year’s scholarship include high school seniors: Marith Anderson, Rush-Henrietta High School; Mary Katharine Brushafer, Lima Christian School; Griffin Cross, Pittsford Sutherland High School; Emma Michels, Brockport High School; and Samantha Waidl, Our Lady of Mercy.
