ESL Enhanced Login Security Features ^top

ESL Internet Banking gets even more secure!

Enhanced Login Security is Free and simple to use, and will help further protect your accounts against identity theft and fraud by adding an extra layer of security.

What is Enhanced Login Security?

Enhanced Login Security adds another layer of security to your Internet Banking login. Previously, you only needed your member number and Password to log in to Internet Banking. With the Enhanced Login Security feature, your member number, password and your computer are all used to identify and authorize you for access to your accounts within Internet Banking.

For maximum security, only enroll computers that you own or that you are the primary user for (like your computer at work.) Do not enroll computers that have public access (like the computer at the library.)

Once you have enrolled computers you routinely use, the Enhanced Login Security feature works "behind the scenes," providing this additional protection. "Enrolling" your computer is a fast, simple, one time process that sets a "cookie" to the specific combination of your computer, your member number and your password. Our web site incorporates Adobe Flash to facilitate this process. To learn more about Adobe Flash, please visit the Adobe website. Complete the procedure once for each specific computer you regularly use and you're done. Your log in process for that computer is the same as it has always been.

When you log in to a computer that is not enrolled, you will be prompted to answer three "Challange Questions." Prior to enrolling in the Enhanced Login Security feature, you will need to first set up these "Challange Questions."

Because knowing the answers to your Challange Questions is essential to accessing Internet Banking on an un-enrolled computer, we recommend you "refresh" the answers to your questions to be sure you know them. It's easy to do - just click on user options from within Internet Banking and select Challange Questions option and follow the instructions. Remember to enter short, one word, easy to remember answers when setting up your Challange Question answers.

Why Add Enhanced Login Security to ESL Internet Banking?

ESL has always considered it our responsibility to make ESL Internet Banking as safe as possible. So when regulators overseeing banks and credit unions, announced that passwords alone will no longer be sufficient as the sole means of achieving online security, we knew we had to do more to further protect our members.

When you enroll in the Enhanced Login Security feature, you get added peace of mind for your Internet Banking transactions. This enhanced security means that even if a user has their password AND member number stolen, the fraudster cannot access online accounts without also knowing the answers to the Challange Questions or possessing the enrolled computer.

To Enroll Your Computer in the Enhanced Login Security Feature

Beginning May 1, 2007 all ESL Internet Banking users will be required to enroll in the Enhanced Login Security feature. Signing up is easy and just takes a few simple steps.

You will see the following screens:

Select "Add it Now" Then you'll see a pop up window for confirmation.

On the popup window, click OK. The Enhanced Login Security feature puts a cookie on your browser. You and your computer have been enrolled in Enhanced Login Security. Once this computer is enrolled, you will see nothing different at future logins to Internet Banking from that computer.

You can enroll as many computers as you wish. For maximum security, only enroll computers that you own or for which you are the primary user. Just log in to Internet Banking while using the computer or browser you want to enroll, click on "User Options" (located at the top right hand corner) and select "Enhanced Login Security Set Up." Then just follow the simple instructions.

Do not enroll any public access or shared computer, such as one at a school, library, or Internet café.

Enhanced Login Security + Challange Questions = More Security

The Enhanced Login Security feature works hand in hand with the Challange Question feature, especially when you need to log into Internet Banking from a non-enrolled computer or browser.

That means it's important to know the answers to your Challange Questions to avoid getting locked out of Internet Banking. Fortunately, it's easy to refresh the answers to your Challange Questions so they stay top of mind.

Here's how to "refresh" the answers to your Challange Questions:

  1. Log in to ESL Internet Banking. Be sure to login from the computer you originally enrolled. (This way, you will not be presented with Challange Questions to access Internet Banking.)
  2. Once inside Internet Banking, click on user options, in the top right hand corner.
  3. Select Challange Question Set Up and follow the directions.
  4. When selecting your answers, use responses that are short and easy to remember exactly as you input them.

Logging in from an Non-enrolled Computer

Once you've enrolled in the Enhanced Login Security feature, the additional layer of security is in place. You'll need more than just your member number and password to log in to ESL Internet Banking at a non-enrolled computer (e.g. at the library, a second computer, etc.) with just your member number and password.

In this situation, you will enter your member number and password. Then you will be presented with your three Challange Questions. Once you answer these questions correctly, you will continue with your Internet Banking session as always. At that time, you can enroll that second computer, using the "Enhanced Login Security Set Up" option under the "User Options" tab.

Enrolling a Second Computer or Browser

Once you've initially enrolled your computer in the Enhanced Login Security feature, you will be asked to answer Challange Questions when you log into Internet Banking from a different computer or a different browser.

This can be avoided by enrolling other computers or browsers:

  1. Login to Internet Banking using the second computer or browser. You will need to answer your Challange Questions this time.
  2. Click on "User Options" and select Enhanced Login Security Set up and follow the prompts.
  3. Now you've enrolled your additional computer or browser and will not need to answer Challange Questions when logging into Internet Banking from that computer or browser again.

Remember - DO NOT enroll computers that have multiple users, like the computer at the library.
