Interview with Molly Preston, Senior Assistant Branch Manager, Webster Branch

What brought you to ESL?
I was taking one final class at Monroe Community College and wanted to get a part-time job that I could turn into a career. My aunt worked at ESL and encouraged me to apply for a teller position, and eventually I started at the Mt. Read Branch!
When you came to ESL, did you expect to advance in your career the way that you have?
Definitely not as quickly as I have. I knew ESL was great at promoting from within the organization, but there is so much support and encouragement that makes it realistic.
What are some of the things that have helped you along the way?
All of my managers have made such a big impact on me, from my first Assistant Manager when I started as a Teller to now. They provide you with the guidance on things you should be working on, how to handle situations in the right manner and even events or programs you should attend or get involved in. The Learning & Development team also has had a hand in helping advance my career. They offer so many leadership classes and provide you with resources to help you.
What are some things that have surprised you?
How many opportunities there are to network. Whether that be signing up for i-visits where you meet with other departments to learn about their areas of focus to shadowing different departments, attending events for young professionals, or being a part of a local networking group or chamber.
Why have you stayed at ESL?
ESL has great benefits, and the core values (accountability, caring about people, teamwork, integrity, and initiative) really shine through. Everyone truly cares about each other. I go home every day feeling so accomplished with all the members I had helped that day and really feel as though I am making a difference.
What else do you think is important for people to know about your journey and ESL?
I think you really get out what you put in. All the effort and work I have put in each day has truly paid off and looking back, I see how much I have grown as a leader and building relationships with members.
