November 9, 2010 The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign was launched at ESL Federal Credit Union headquarters on Friday, Nov. 5. David L. Fiedler, ESL President and CEO and honorary chairperson of the campaign, assisted Rochester Salvation Army’s area coordinator, Major James Cocker, in kicking off the event. This year’s goal is $575,000. Also participating in the event were County Executive Maggie Brooks, Assistant to the Major Darryl Porter, and meteorologists from local television stations who predicted the campaign donation totals. "ESL is pleased to be a part of this year's Red Kettle Campaign. The Campaign is special not just because of the number of people it serves in our community but also because of the efforts of the many individuals in the Greater Rochester Area who give of their time during the holiday season to help those in need," said Fiedler. Last year in Rochester alone, 8,426 individuals were recipients of the Army's Holiday Toy Shop; 10,108 people received meals through the Army's Christmas Distribution and other programs; and 38 families were assisted through its Adopt-a-Family program. Funds from the campaign were also used to provide assistance throughout the year to those who turned to the Salvation Army for food, shelter, clothing and other needs. Approximately, 50,000 people each year in the Greater Rochester area are helped through the Salvation Army's efforts.
