Ajamu Kitwana Selected as Forty Under 40 Award Honoree

Rochester, NY — The Rochester Business Journal has selected Ajamu Kitwana, executive director, ESL Charitable Foundation, to the Forty Under 40 Award Class of 2018. Forty Under 40 recognizes 40 men and women, 40 years of age or younger, who have achieved professional success and have also made significant civic contributions to the Rochester community. Honorees were selected by a committee of local business leaders.

Kitwana joined ESL in 2013 as consumer prosperity manager, and he helped lead relationship development between ESL and many key community organizations including: Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Rochester, C.A.S.H. Coalition, NeighborWorks Rochester, SCORE Rochester, and the Housing Council at Pathstone. In 2016 he was named to his current role of executive director, ESL Charitable Foundation, where he continues his community impact leadership, overseeing the Foundation’s personnel growth, grant-giving initiatives, and working with the Foundation’s Board of Directors to enhance its strategic focus.

“His dedication to causes both internal and external has made Ajamu a beacon for many to turn to for inspiration,” said the ESL Charitable Foundation board in its nomination. “It is with honor and pleasure that we recommend Ajamu for ‘Forty Under 40;’ as he exemplifies what it means to be part of this prestigious selection of community members.”

All Forty Under 40 nominees will be recognized at a November 14 luncheon at noon at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Winners will also be featured in a November 16 special edition of the Rochester Business Journal and available online at www.rbj.net.
