Apple Pay™ Now Available to ESL Federal Credit Union Members

Offering an Easy, Secure, and Private Way to Pay

Rochester, NY – In a move to provide greater access and convenience to its members, ESL Federal Credit Union began offering Apple Pay earlier this month. Apple Pay is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure, and private way to pay.

The decision to offer Apple Pay to members was based on members’ desire to have greater ease and accessibility to manage their financial matters, in the ways that are most convenient for them. Apple Pay also provides members with additional security features.

“Because of rapid changes in mobile technology and the growing popularity of mobile banking among consumers, we felt it important to offer our members Apple Pay,” said William Freeman, ESL’s vice president/director of marketing. “Convenience, simplicity, privacy, and security are very important to our members. Apple Pay is one more way in which ESL responds to its members.”

Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When members add a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element on members’ devices. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code, instead of using the security code from the back of members’ cards.

In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6,® iPhone 6 Plus,® and Apple Watch. To use it at participating locations, customers simply hold their iPhone near the contactless reader while keeping a finger on Touch ID,™ or when using Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the face up to the contactless reader. Online shopping in apps accepting Apple Pay is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, so there’s no need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. When paying for goods and services within apps, Apple Pay is compatible with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2,® and iPad mini 3.®
