ESL Awards $20k in Scholarships to 10 High-School Students

Rochester, NY — For the eighth consecutive year, ESL Federal Credit Union has awarded college-bound high school students with a $2,000 scholarship from ESL’s College Scholarship program. ESL recognized 10 students who demonstrate how they help their community in a unique and meaningful way.

This year’s scholarship award recipients are:

  • Refia Bilgic, Geneseo High School
  • Mansa Brown-Tonge, Allendale Columbia School
  • Emma Guthrie, Ruben Cirillo High School
  • Lennon Hare, Hilton High School
  • Janet Jaramillo, Marion Jr. Sr. High School
  • Zaynab Khan, Pittsford Mendon High School
  • Tehjauna McDonald, Edison Career and Technology High School
  • Mshingelwa Mfaume, East High School
  • Tre’ Reese, Pittsford Sutherland High School
  • Noelia Ventura, Batavia High School

“We are pleased to recognize these outstanding students with an ESL College Scholarship and highlight their positive contributions to our shared community,” said Celeste Kier, Senior Vice President/Director, Marketing & Customer Experience, ESL Federal Credit Union. “The ESL College Scholarship is an important way we can invest in young leaders, honor their accomplishments and help offset the rising costs of a college education.”

Application requirements included:

  • A member in good standing at ESL Federal Credit Union
  • A high school senior in the Greater Rochester area during 2021/2022 school year
  • Attending accredited college or university in Fall 2022

Nearly 200 applicants vied for this year’s ESL College Scholarship, providing official copies of their transcripts, letters of recommendation from a school official and community/volunteer organization, and a list of extracurricular activities and community service. In alignment with ESL’s purpose, students were encouraged to write about how they help their community “thrive and prosper.”

ESL will be sharing highlights of all winners on their website on www.esl.org in late-June through the month of July.
