ESL Awards $20k in Scholarships to 10 High-School Students

Rochester, NY — For the ninth consecutive year, ESL Federal Credit Union has awarded college-bound high school students with a $2,000 scholarship from ESL’s College Scholarship program. ESL recognized 10 students who demonstrate how they help their community in a unique and meaningful way.

This year’s scholarship award recipients are:

  • Madison Anderson, Irondequoit High School
  • Mamadou Barry, Rush-Henrietta Senior High School
  • Abby Belecz, Penfield High School
  • Gabriella Carballo, Odyssey Academy
  • Olivia Dibble, Honeoye Middle/High School
  • Lilah Harvey, Penfield High School
  • Eli Jeffery, Penfield High School
  • Brendan Mariano, Brighton High School
  • Hayden McCue, Fairport High School
  • Narolin Pena-Jimenez, Eastridge Senior High

“We are honored to award the ESL College Scholarship to these exceptional high school seniors who have demonstrated how they make a difference in their community,” said Celeste Kier, Senior Vice President/Director, Marketing & Customer Experience, ESL Federal Credit Union. “Through this program, we are proud to invest in our community’s young leaders and support their pursuit of higher education.”

Application requirements included:

  • A member in good standing at ESL Federal Credit Union
  • A high school senior in the Greater Rochester area during 2022/2023 school year
  • Attending accredited college or university in Fall 2023

Nearly 200 applicants vied for this year’s ESL College Scholarship, providing official copies of their transcripts, letters of recommendation from a school official and community/volunteer organization, and a list of extracurricular activities and community service. In alignment with ESL’s purpose, students were encouraged to write about how they help their community “thrive and prosper.”

ESL will be sharing highlights of all winners on their website on www.esl.org in late-June through the month of July.
