ESL Awards $20k in Scholarships to Ten High-School Students
Rochester, NY — For the sixth consecutive year, ESL Federal Credit Union has awarded college-bound high school students with a $2,000 scholarship from ESL’s College Scholarship program. This year, in celebration of the company’s 100th anniversary, ESL recognized ten students who demonstrate how they help our community in a unique and meaningful way.
This year’s scholarship award recipients include:
- Jennifer Adler, East Rochester High School
- Elizabeth (Liza) Cotter, Allendale Columbia School
- Harrison Davis, The Harley School
- Sophia Harvey, Victor Senior High School
- Jasmine Kiley, Penfield High School
- Mason Kuhn, Kendall Jr/Sr High School
- Somayya Upal, Pittsford Sutherland High School
- Emma Magioncalda, Our Lady of Mercy
- David Munechika, Fairport High School
- Ijeoma Nwugwo, Victor Senior High School
“These ESL College Scholarships help offset the rising costs of a college education and recognizes the exemplary achievements of students who make positive contributions to our community,” said Celeste Kier, Senior Vice President/Director, Marketing & Customer Experience, ESL Federal Credit Union. “Investing in the education of our youth by assisting with student success is one important way to help make Rochester a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
To be eligible, applicants must have been:
- A member in good standing at ESL Federal Credit Union
- A high school senior in the Greater Rochester area during 2019/2020 school year
- Attending accredited college or university in Fall 2020
Nearly 250 applicants vied for this year’s ESL College Scholarship, providing official copies of their transcripts, letters of recommendation from a school official and community/volunteer organization, and a list of extracurricular activities and community service. In alignment with ESL’s purpose, students were encouraged to write about how they help their community “thrive and prosper.”
