Q&A with owners Jenny Farrell and Liz Hayes

Tell us about your journey.

We have always been involved in health & fitness in some capacity. Liz is a nurse practitioner and has an infrared sauna in her basement. She was an avid user and believer in the power of “heat” and what it did for her both mentally and physically, especially during Covid. Jenny earned a master’s degree in nutrition, and from there became a personal trainer and worked in health clubs all over Rochester before pursuing a corporate career in sales management and training.

We both knew that if there were ever a chance to make our passion a career, and we would jump at the chance.

In 2023, we realized we wanted to live out our dream and find a way to bring a unique style of fitness to this community. We researched Infrared heat and exercise, found Oxygen, and the vision took off! We opened our first studio in May 2025.

What are some of your success strategies?

Since we are new — we are still figuring out what “best practices” and strategies will work for us and our members. We have always believed that the Oxygen brand is strong, and it has been successful for a reason. It’s the mix of state-of-the-art science, quality classes, and a studio of community where members can be empowered to be their best selves. That certainly hasn’t changed, and we are learning everyday what that looks like for the people that have joined.

What are some of the challenges you have faced?

The process to get to a state of “open doors” was challenging. There were so many details and work to consider. Add in roadblocks regarding permits, construction, finding the right location, the lawyer fees, the changes in tariffs, and town requirements. All of this delayed our building process by six months because of unforeseen steps. Plus, we were both working full time jobs while trying to do this on the side! There were definite setbacks to our confidence and our momentum, but we just kept the end goal in sight. Liz would always say “if this were easy — everyone would do it.” We kept our eye on the prize and knew that the community NEEDED and would WELCOME this brand-new modality with open arms. Our motto is “the most unique experience in Rochester” and everyone has loved what we are offering!
