Here are six ideal qualities that an entrepreneur should possess to be successful:

Negotiator

A good entrepreneur handles everything from contracts to leases with polished negotiating skills to keep business running smoothly. Example: Using savvy strategies, Mark Zuckerberg has helped Facebook acquire more than 50 companies including WhatsApp and Oculus VR.1

Persuasive

It’s helpful when you enjoy public speaking and can make compelling arguments grounded in facts and information. Example: Even Warren Buffet brushed up on the art of persuasion. He took classes from Dale Carnegie, author of How to Win Friends and Influence People.2

Connected

Stay supported with a ready network of people to consult with as needed. Example: Warby Parker, the $1 billion online glasses company, was started by four friends in business school who had unique strengths and experiences. Neil Blumenthal, co-CEO and cofounder, used his experience building infrastructure as director of the nonprofit eyewear provider VisionSpring.3

Calculated

A good entrepreneur must be comfortable making tough decisions and enjoys the thrill of taking calculated risks. Example: Bill Gates can attribute his success to this. He dropped out of college to found Microsoft and is now worth more than $800 billion.4

Independent

Starting a business means not being afraid to use elbow grease to get a task done. Trusts their instincts and isn't afraid of rejection. Example: Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school, but has now directed for 50+ years, with his films grossing more than $9 billion worldwide.5

Creative

Successful business owners can think on their feet and with fresh ideas and new ways to solve problems. Example: Sergey Brin and Larry Page developed search in a new way. By depending on a better user experience, and switching the algorithm, Google was able to stand out.6
