ATM and Debit Card - ESL Card Control App FAQs

ESL Card Control is a secure mobile app (separate from ESL Mobile Banking) that allows you to control how, when, and where your personal ESL debit and/or Health Savings Account (HSA) cards are used.

You can turn your card off (and back on) if you misplace your card, add spending control by amount, merchant, or location and receive immediate transaction alerts.

ESL Card Control is available for iPhones in the App Store® and for Android smartphones in Google Play™ store. Please be sure to have iOS version 10.3 or later for iPhones and version 5.1 or later for Android smartphones.

ESL Card Control is only available for smartphones and is not fully compatible with other devices such as laptops, tablets, PCs, or wearables.

No. ESL Card Control is free to use.

Personal ESL debit cards and ESL Health Savings Account (HSA) Cards can be registered in the app. This service is not available for ESL Credit Cards, ESL Prepaid Cards, ESL Business Debit Cards, or ESL Business Credit Cards.

You may register as many personal ESL debit and/or Health Savings Account (HSA) cards as you’d like.

Once your cards are registered, you can begin putting controls in place immediately.

To turn your card off, toggle the Card On/Off button, and the little green circle in the top right corner of the card image will turn red. This means, all transactions (except recurring) will be declined. To turn your card back on, simply toggle the Card On/Off button, and the little red circle will turn green. Turning your card off and on is instant.

In Control Preferences, you can put controls in place based on your location, merchant types (gas station, groceries, restaurants, etc.), transaction types (in-store, online ATM, etc.), and spending limits.

In Alert Preferences, you can set your alerts based on your location, merchant types, transaction types, and spend limits.

Yes. If you have an ESL debit or HSA card loaded into your digital wallet, the settings you put in place using ESL Card Control will apply to these cards as well as the physical card.

No. Turning your card off does not affect the status of the account associated with your card; it only prevents the ability to make transactions using your card. In addition, you can also turn off any recurring payments you have set up that use your card (you’ll find the option to manage this under Controls and alerts > Transaction types > Auto pay.)

Other account transaction activities like writing and depositing checks, making bill payments, and processing ACH transactions will still occur even when the card is turned off.

My Location allows you to control in-store transactions based on the physical location of the primary device. When using My Location, in-store transactions must be within an 8-mile radius of the primary device to be processed. Any in-store transactions made outside of the 8-mile radius will be declined. No other transaction types are impacted by your My Location settings.

You must enable Location Services on your phone to use My Location.

My Region allows you to set up a maximum of three regions to control in-store transactions only. You can set My Region based on country, city, state, zip code, or even popular destinations. You can also create your own region by zooming in/out on the map (must be at least a 5-mile radius).

When My Region is set, in-store transactions outside the selected region(s) will be declined.

Some merchants list their centralized office address instead of the store’s actual location. The list of central office locations is continually being updated. This may also be the case for many vendors who travel to different locations, for example, food vendors at concerts or festivals whose business address will fall outside the My Location or My Region parameters within the app.

Alert preferences let you know every time a card transaction is attempted. You can set alerts for all transactions or selected transactions based on location, transaction type, merchant type, or amount.

Only the primary device will receive alerts. Use the settings menu in ESL Card Control to set your phone as the primary device.
